Neighborhood Survey Project Funded!

Mt Scott Arleta Neighborhood Association got word last week that we received funds for a grant we submitted via SEUL's Neighborhood Small Grants Program !  The project is a partnership with ROSE CDC and the Mt Scott Community Center.  In a nutshell, we will be developing a survey and distributing it to MSA neighbors (that's you!). The information generated will allow us to connect neighbors to one another by establishing hobby and interest groups, generate a volunteer list for future neighborhood projects from this survey engaging our neighbors in creating a more livable and sustainable community.  Additionally, we will collect information from the survey regarding local area businesses, schools, and professionals living in the area to create a directory of resources that can be utilized by neighbors. Our hope is that this will allow us to foster relationships and build community by helping us connect with one other and work together for the betterment of Mt Scott

The goal of the Graffiti Abatement Community Grants Program is to support community-driven improvement projects and community building opportunities in the area of graffiti abatement and attempting to repair harm of graffiti on the community.  The funding for this program is limited and therefore places an emphasis on graffiti prevention, graffiti abatement and/or addressing locations chronically tagged with graffiti. Please visit SE Uplift's website to learn more! Our Happy Block (located on SE Woodstock, between SE 80th & 82nd Ave) received funds in 2011 from this exact grant. OHB painted a 50'x23' mural and installed mural lighting to defer graffiti on the chronically 'tagged' wall. OHB's mural in progress.   Submission Deadline:  Friday, February 24 by 4:00PM

Come to City Council Tomorrow Afternoon!

Reminder: On the proposal to construct a new celltower in our neighborhood at the property of Mt.Scott Fuel a hearing will be held by City Council to hear Verizon's appeal of the Hearings Officer's decision. Although the Hearings Officer sided with the objections from neighbors and the board of Mt.Scott-Arleta Neighborhood Association and denied Verizon's application, this appeal to City Council means that we will have to voice our concerns, objections and reasons this proposal should be denied one more time.    The hearing for City Council is on Wednesday January 11 at 2 pm.   Just as with the initial hearing, it will be very beneficial to our case if we have as many people as possible provide testimony and speak to the issue from their own perspective. We did an excellent job the first time around, which as a direct result made us prevail in the first round of the case. We will just have to do it one more time, and with a similar good approach we can have a
