Exciting things are about to happen with Foster Road!

Image
....And one of the reasons why it is so exciting is that you can have input and help determine which improvements may happen and how Foster Road will be transformed! For many, many years the City has had plans to improve Foster Road. But with so many other projects needing funding as well, and available funds being so scarce, it has mostly remained plans on paper. That is about to change. Due to a combination of factors, things are finally about to change for Foster Road. And “change for the better” that is! SE Foster and 50th, 1937 taken from Vintage Portland Our own Mt.Scott-Arleta Neighborhood Association is working together with our friends north of Foster, the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association and we are jointly engaging the City in different ways get improvements for Foster Road not just planned but also implemented. Help to Raise Funds for MSANA -- Talk Compost!

Get outside folks! Exercise and meet your neighbors while talking about Portland’s compost program to help raise some extra funds for MSANA for cool neighborhood projects and activities!    What :  The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability (BPS) invites neighborhood associations to mobilize volunteers to promote composting and raise money for their group. Why :  Portlanders are doing a great job at composting food scraps. It takes time to adapt to a new change and the City wants to answer questions and provide assistance with the changes. How: BPS will provide training and materials and folks from the Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood will earn $2.00 per conversation or $.50 per household not home for our Neighborhood Association! The more volunteers who show up, the more money we will raise for MSANA for cool neighborhood activities and projects! Cell Tower at Mt. Scott Fuel

Image
The following is a summary of the cell tower that is proposed at Mt. Scott Fuel, located within (your) Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood.... In September of last year (2011) a notice was issued by the City about a public hearing regarding Verizon and Mt. Scott Fuel proposing to build a new cell tower at the site of Mt. Scott Fuel at 6904 SE Foster road. This Mt. Scott Fuel site is a non-conforming use and non-confirming development that does not fit within the current zoning (or character) of our neighborhood. Furthermore even though the nature of the business is selling landscaping materials from the site, the actual site has no landscaping at all but instead is surrounded by an ugly chain-link fence and concrete walls all around, and on top of that the owners even requested a waiver from the mandatory landscaping requirements associated with the proposed cell tower. The application required a so-called Type-III zoning review because the applicant was requesting a waiver of the required...
