The Wizard of Oz at Franklin High School
Follow the yellow brick road over the rainbow to the Franklin High School Auditorium for an enchanting presentation of “The Wizard of Oz.” This classic musical will land for six performances: April 11, 12, 19, and 20 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. matinees on April 13 and 21.
This full-scale production, featuring more than 80 students, transports you to the magical Land of Oz, following Dorothy and her friends through such favorite tunes as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” “If I Only Had a Brain” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.”
Theatrical Director, Josh Forsythe and his talented crew have created colorful sets, developing “the most special effects involved production of my career,” said Forsythe. “It sounds cliché to say that you get to live your dream, but this is really my dream--getting to work with these kids and watch them develop their skills. They are just amazing.”
Musical Director Stephen Alexander, winner of four Drammy Awards and several regional awards, adds his talent to this musical score, creating a captivating experience.
Recommended for children over 7. The special effects and the Wicked Witch of the West have been described as “fairly scary.” Franklin High School is located at 5405 SE Woodward, Portland, OR. The theater is at the east end of the school behind the gymnasium. Tickets, $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults, are available at the door.
