Forgotten Portland History: Chinese Vegetable Farmers of Portland
For at least four decades, an extensive community of Chinese farmers lived in Goose Hollow (farming the steep slopes of the Tanner Creek Gulch), in Slabtown (farming the floodplains of Balch Creek, Johnson Creek and Guild's Lake) in Albina, Mt. Tabor and Sylvan. In this presentation from Portland historian Tracy J. Prince, you'll discover this intriguing chapter in Portland's history, told with rare photos of the Chinese farmers and their residences. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 6:15-7:45 p.m.
__________

Colors of the Jungle - Meet the Oregon Bird Man and his parrots! Learn about the natural history of parrots and their behavior in captivity, responsible pet ownership, and why some parrots are now critically endangered. Tuesday October 8th, 4-5 p.m.
