Learn to Make New Fruiting Shrubs and Trees
Do you have a sunny spot in your garden or yard that could use a bit more color? Would you like an easy-going fruiting plant to provide you with yummy treats? Would you like to give your friends and neighbors the same superb variety of fruit that you currently enjoy? If you're thinking "yes" to any of these questions or you just want to know how to propagate plants, read on...
You might be amazed at how easy it is to reproduce a wide-variety of edible plants from cuttings. On Saturday, February 9th from 1-3pm, Zenger Farm, offers an affordable training in these simple techniques. Mt. Scott-Arleta's Sustainability chair, Jonathan Brandt, will discuss and demonstrate hardwood and softwood cuttings, layering, and dividing of clumps during this hands-on workshop. These techniques will allow you to propagate your very own grapes, figs, currants, blueberries, raspberries, rhubarb, and more. It's easy and fun, and plants make great gifts for neighbors who share your interests in gardening or food (or maybe they can't get enough of your homemade preserves). As a gift that you make for others with your own hands, they are priceless! You can't buy them anywhere. If you start your new plants this spring, you can have healthy plants ready to gift next winter. Potting soil will be on-hand and we hope to collect enough cuttings so each participant can take home a new plant!
