Heart of Arleta: You Can Shape Your Neighborhood's Future

The Portland Development Commission (PDC) will soon be soliciting neighborhood input about the future use of the two vacant lots on the south side of Foster Rd at 72nd Ave.
We are currently forming a committee that will shape the official neighborhood association recommendations to the PDC.

The property, formerly a used car lot, has been empty for over a year. It was purchased by the PDC in cooperation with the Portland Housing Bureau in April 2011. You can read the Oregonian Article about the purchase here.

The Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood Association (MSANA) sees these two lots as pivotal in the development of the neighborhood, particularly as an anchor for the “Heart of Arleta,” the main street area that reaches from Foster to Woodstock on 72nd Ave.

The future development of this site has profound implications on the future of the neighborhood, and it is important that we, as neighborhood residents, make our voices heard in the process.
The MSANA wants to know what neighborhood residents want to see happen on the land.

We need your input on the future development of 72nd Ave and Foster Rd. intersection. If you would like to be involved in this process, or to learn more, contact the MSANA at msananews@gmail.com.

What would you like to see at 72nd and Foster?

  1. Thank you so much for getting this great blog started for the Mt Scott/Arlta neighborhood.

I would like to point out though, that the heart of foster actually encompasses Foster Road, from 62nd to 67th.

The area that this article is written about is called the "green link", due to it being across from the park like block on Foster/Powell's side and the street that our community center and park are on.

You can check this out on page 9 of the Portland plans blue print. Just google heart of foster road.

Again, great write ups. So much good happening here.

  2. Thanks for your input, glad you are enjoying the blog! I didn't write this post, but I believe this post is referring to 72nd as being the heart of ARLETA, not Foster. 72nd Avenue seems to act as our neighborhood's Main Street (without referring to the wording of the Portland Plan.)

Maybe our neighborhood is just a big ole heart?

    Thanks again for the comment!

  4. Since there appears to be no way to post comments on non-titled articles. I will post this here as this is big news. Not on our side of Foster Road, but still seems like our neighborhood. Maybe a new article could be added?

Maybe just for the 114 helpers, though looks like open to everyone.
