SE Uplift Donating Items to Transition Projects


SE Uplift is collecting items to donate to Transition Projects in an effort to provide warmth and basic necessities to community members experiencing homelessness.

If you have items you would like to donate, please bring your donations to: SE Uplift, 3534 SE Main Street, Monday-Thursday 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. Jan - February 25th, 2011.

Wish List:
Hygiene products (any size; unused)
· Deodorant
· Toothpaste
· Toothbrushes
· Razors
· Shaving cream
· Lotion
· Feminine hygiene products

Linens (gently used is fine)
· Blankets
· Towels
· Twin-sized sheets
· Pillows

Clothing (for adults; gently used is fine)
· Clothing (seasonal, to the extent possible)
· Underwear and socks
· Shoes
· Shoe strings
· Belts

ROSE CDC Has Big Plans For Wikman Building

I’m not sure when I made the switch from pronouncing it “arr-let-ah “to “arr-leet-ah.“ It sort of happened without my noticing, but I suspect it was around the time that Multnomah County declared the Wikman Building surplus , and started soliciting bids for future uses of the site.  I learned at the open house that the building, located at 4420 S.E. 64th  Ave , at Holgate, just across from Laurelwood Park, was originally the Arleta Library. Suddenly the name had meaning, history, and context. I started pronouncing it with the long “e” in the middle. I do believe that language is ever-evolving and organic, and the same applies neighborhoods, but I also believe that it is important to recognize and preserve history.  This historic gem stands empty now, but there are plans in the works to make it a community centerpiece. Farewell and Thanks!

Dear neighbors, I wanted to express gratitude for the Neighborhood Association system and in particular the opportunity to serve on the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood board for the past four years with such thoughtful and caring fellow board members. It’s been an honor to chair the meetings of people who are showing up to create community by working together for the benefit of everyone who lives, works, and plays here. As I depart for a sabbatical in the agrarian hills of Southern Oregon in late March, I will reflect on the many accomplishments of our board in which I’ve had the pleasure to participate.
